Brazil Potash is advancing its Autazes Potash Project in the Amazonas State toward construction as Brazil looks to strengthen domestic fertilizer production and reduce its heavy reliance on imported potash. The project is designed to produce approximately 2.4 million tons of potash annually at full capacity over an operating period of at least 23 years. With Brazil currently importing the vast majority of the potash required by its agricultural sector, Autazes is being developed as a potential large-scale domestic source of an essential fertilizer input for one of the world’s largest agricultural economies.
A major focus throughout 2026 has been moving Autazes toward construction readiness and project financing. Brazil Potash has awarded Front-End Engineering Design work covering the project’s surface facilities, infrastructure, mine shafts and underground development. Wood and Promon Engenharia are responsible for surface facilities and infrastructure, while WSP and Redpath Deilmann are advancing the underground and shaft components. Completion of the full FEED program is targeted for Q2 2027 and represents an important step toward establishing the detailed engineering package required to support construction financing discussions with potential lenders and development finance institutions.
The project has also received additional support from Brazil’s evolving fertilizer policy. In September, Brazil enacted the Profert program, establishing incentives intended to encourage new domestic fertilizer production and investment. Brazil Potash has stated that these incentives, together with previously announced SUFRAMA benefits, could provide construction cost savings and access to government-supported financing. The company has also highlighted recent favorable court decisions relating to Autazes, including an August decision from Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court that rejected a petition seeking to halt construction activities, leaving the project’s current permits in place.
Commercial progress is another important component of the Autazes development strategy. Brazil Potash has secured long-term offtake agreements covering approximately 91% of the project’s anticipated production, providing a substantial contracted customer base ahead of construction. The company also completed a US$63.3 million public financing in May, strengthening its balance sheet as engineering and pre-construction work accelerates. With Autazes expected to require several years of construction before production begins, securing the broader project financing package remains one of the most significant milestones ahead.
Most recently, Brazil Potash signed a definitive 28-year agreement for a 20-megawatt modular power plant that is expected to support construction before eventually serving as backup power once the project is connected to Brazil’s national grid. The arrangement is expected to remove approximately US$33 million of upfront power infrastructure costs from the construction budget and generate approximately US$10 million in net savings over the contract’s life. Combined with engineering progress, government incentives, long-term offtake commitments and continued financing work, Brazil Potash is steadily assembling the commercial, technical and financial components required to move Autazes from development toward construction.
